Varco 500 ton TDS-3 Top Drive includes splined main drive section without quill. Rated at 37,000 ft-lbs max torque. Quill can be purchased or manufactured to slide into place without disassembly. Fully rebuilt and tested in 2017 by top drive specialists Global Drilling Support in Houston. Had Cat 4 inspection – Sandblast/NDT housing, replace all bearings, seals, O-rings, lube pump and motor, hydraulic hoses, etc, repaint. About $70,000 of work. Warehouse storage since then. Varco Serial # TDS3A13Y234.
The GE 1000 HP DC 752 electric drilling motor was also rebuilt and tested in 2017 by Global Tech Motors and Controls in Houston. Tag says Model #5GE752AUT2 S/N #EE92010210, 1085 hp, 750volt, 1150amp, 965rpm.
We can manufacture and include a new API splined quill at extra cost with your choice of API threads. The top drive is built with a large 10″ bore female splined main shaft which allows a splined quill to be dropped in and exchanged with min down time. This top drive was used for years on the drillship Joides Revolution until it was replaced with a new technology top drive system costing millions of dollars.
Pipe handler & torque reaction is an easily attachable separate system which attaches to the two side pins. It is not included but can be located for approx. $20-$30,000.
The TDS-3 top drive was designed to be suspended from a 500 ton rotary swivel which is not included but may be obtained in various brands at low cost.
Unit could also be used as a special torquing/rotating device other than a top drive. It has a 10:1 gear ratio and could be powered by other than existing motor, ie AC motor or hydraulic motor. We could help with such adaptation.
